1 过去不远的时代。《后汉书．卷四一．第五伦传》：「近代光烈皇后，虽友爱天至，而卒使阴就归国，徙废阴兴宾客。」《三国志．卷五九．吴书．吴主五子传．孙登传》：「权欲登读汉书，习知近代之事。」也作「近世」。
2 我国历史上专指十九世纪中叶至五四运动之间的时期。
