1 春秋鲁大夫孟武伯常失信于鲁哀公。在一次宴会中，孟武伯问哀公的宠臣郭重为何如此肥胖，哀公借机讽刺说：「是食言多矣，能无肥乎？」典出《左传．哀公二十五年》。后用以比喻言而无信，说话不守信用。明．李开光〈水风卧吟楼记〉：「此予事而挂客怀，何也？不以食言而肥，不因苦吟而瘦，试以数语为记，请览而教正之如何？」
