1 市集或街道。《诗经．陈风．东门之枌．序》：「男女弃其旧业，亟会于道路，歌舞于市井尔。」《后汉书．卷七六．循吏传．刘宠传》：「山民愿朴，乃有白首不入市井者，颇为官吏所扰。」
2 商人。《史记．卷三○．平准书》：「孝惠、高后时，为天下初定，复弛商贾之律，然市井之子孙亦不得仕宦为吏。」
3 无赖。《醒世恒言．卷七．钱秀才错占凤凰俦》：「尤辰虽然市井，从未熬刑，只得实说。」
