1 动物名。一种害虫。节肢动物门昆虫纲。其类别甚多。也称为「青虫」。
2 蜾蠃常捕捉螟蛉来饲养其子，古人误以为蜾蠃养螟蛉为己子，后因称养子为「螟蛉」。《诗经．小雅．小宛》：「螟蛉有子，蜾蠃负之。」《三国演义．第三六回》：「兄长既有子，何必用螟蛉。」
