唐宋两代八位古文代表作家的合称。即唐韩愈、柳宗元，宋欧阳修、苏洵、苏轼、苏辙、王安石、曾巩。明茅坤曾编有《唐宋八大家文钞》一百四十四卷，唐宋古文八大家之名始著。
