1 祭祀时只用羊、豕二牲，这二牲即称为「中牢」。《汉书．卷七．昭帝纪》：「有不幸者赐衣被一袭，祠以中牢。」唐．杨烱〈为薛令祭刘少监文〉：「中书令河东薛某，谨以清酌中牢之奠，谨祭故少监刘公之灵。」也称为「少牢」。
