1 职官名。唐宋为内庭供奉之官，方技、杂流，亦待诏翰林。明清则为进士朝考后，得庶吉士的称号。
2 形容文翰之多如林。《文选．扬雄．长杨赋》：「聊因笔墨之成文章，故藉翰林以为主人　。」
